They became de facto community centers, a place where farmers, laborers, and vecinos (neighbors) could come together after a long day's work. This tradition was solidified during the 20th century, particularly during and after the Spanish Civil War, when these bars offered a rare sense of normalcy and continuity in turbulent times. They provided a space for people to find solace, share stories, and maintain a sense of shared identity, a role they continue to play today.
